Biography

A New Jersey native, Kenneth Cooke grew up playing hockey (#LGR). Literally a team player, Ken thrives in collaborative environments, comfortable taking the lead but also willing to pass the puck to ultimately meet the end goal. Always the creative, Ken immersed himself in art and design from an early age. His first job in college to pay his way through art school was in a sign shop, working with his hands to apply design to tangible goods, from mom & pop window displays to the graphics on the side of his father’s cement truck. As a young designer, it was really something to see his work in the wild, but it was at that sign shop that he honed his production skills - head down, focusing on getting the details just right.

Quickly after graduation, Ken found himself in the world of publishing, working his way from a freelancer to Senior Associate Art Director at Life & Style. In the day-to-day of a weekly magazine, he found his knack to work quickly and efficiently, while staying true to brand. Producing issue after issue with ever-changing content, guidelines to follow (both brand and legal), and lots of stories ending up on the cutting room floor, Ken was able to really experience “fast-paced” at its finest. He also took initiative, working closely with other departments such as PR, innately knowing that it takes communication among all team members to really fulfill the vision.

Ken flew South to see about a girl in 2012. His freelance career took off, contracting for some of Atlanta’s notable brands and agencies, while also working with start-ups on complete visual identities. Environmental Design. Print. Publishing. Branding. Illustration. Interactive Media. He is passionate about design in all forms and immerses himself in the creative side of business in any way possible. His body of work in his career has been so varied but clearly defined all the same: visual story-telling is the common thread.

Ken is currently the Creative Director at Berkeley Research Group, a global consulting firm that helps leading organizations advance in three key areas: disputes and investigations, corporate finance, and strategy and operations. He has built a dynamic and growing in-house team that has displayed the power of design for a company that has grown exponentially in its decade in business. His holistic approach to branding, collaborative spirit, and passion for design thinking have been key in leading the firm through a complete rebrand, website build, and celebration of their 10 Year Anniversary.

When he’s not creatively directing or slinging PowerPoints, you can find Ken with his wife (yes, that girl) and three year old daughter #girldad, having brunch, doing art projects, or exploring some of the best cities in the South. There’s always a notebook or podcast nearby.
